Last year Scott McQuade, director of the convention and visitors bureau, was looking for a "brand name" for our area, so it would be known throughout the electronic media as a favorable destination -- the idea was to create a presence like "Hilton Head" etc. So we started going around Glynn County recording businesses who have already embraced the new brand name for our area -- we found Golden Isles NIssan, Golden Isles Well Drilling and a bunch of others -- but this one was the most interesting but capturing it was a problem....

Harper's Joy is a group home for developentally challenged adults housed in the former Glynn County Hospital. There has been an effort, started by the state regulatory organization, to close the facility and disperse the current residents in other locations as far away as Waycross and Savannah. There is a local effort to keep the facility open and at a meeting a few weeks ago with Mayor Thompson, Rep. Alex Atwood and Sen. The Speaker's appearance at Marshside Grill coincided with the Our Net News website getting hacked by a group of Turkish hackers who were out gunning for American news outlets and disrupting their services -- so this is less about Newt than it is about us trying to get back to a normal business life -- but it seems to be getting better -- Oprah two weeks ago and Newt last week, jus sayin....

In this extraordinary broadcast Judge Anthony Alaimo, seen here on the right is being introduced by former Atty. Gen. Griffin Bell at Ocean Forest on Sea Island. On this occasion, a small audience heard Judge Alaimo describe his experiences in WWII as a prisoner of war under the Germans. There is nothing we can say to warn you about the intensity of Judge Alaimo's descriptions except to say that the challenges the Judge faced in his captivity were perhaps only dwarfed by the challenges the Nazis faced in attempting to contain him.....
